A Hong Kong youth innovation and entrepreneurship community was inaugurated at the Futian Shenzhen-Hong Kong Scientific and Technological Cooperation Zone on Saturday, providing a place for young people from Hong Kong to do business in Shenzhen, according to the Daily Sunshine.

The community is close to Futian and Huanggang checkpoints and covers an area of around 4,000 square meters. It is a multifunctional community providing conveniences related to multiple aspects, including space, funding, policies, platforms, projects, communities and other services so as to urge more young people from Hong Kong to contribute their wisdom to the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The community promises free office rent for the first year, half-priced rent in the second year and a 30-percent discount for the third year, according to the Daily Sunshine report.

Young people from Hong Kong and Macao can receive subsidies when working for businesses based in the community as interns.

In addition, they can also apply to live in the community’s apartment building and enjoy a 50-percent discount on rent in the first year.

The community can also provide free working space for three to six months to innovative teams that have not established their companies yet.

The community has so far attracted 23 teams from Hong Kong.

Zheng Hongbo, Futian District’s Party chief, said that Futian will spare no efforts to build two key engines, namely the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Scientific and Technological Cooperation Zone and Xiangmihu New Financial Center, and to further enhance measures to benefit the development of Hong Kong residents in Futian.

Alfred Sit Wing-hang, secretary for Hong Kong Innovation and Technology, extended congratulations through a video.

He hopes the community will further promote exchange and scientific and technological innovation cooperation between young people in Shenzhen and Hong Kong to jointly contribute to the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The selection of the teams and companies to settle in the community will be based on the quality of the projects and the teams’ capabilities, the report said, quoting an insider familiar with the establishment of the innovation center.

Applicants should work in fields supported by Futian District such as medical technology, big data, artificial intelligence and robotics.
