Meaning:

“智性” means “intelligence,” and “恋” means “love.” This term, translated from the English term “sapiosexual,” means “sexually attracted to highly intelligent people.” While some people prize looks above all else in a love interest, others may find the contents of someone else’s mind to be their most attractive attribute. From the Latin root “sapien” meaning wise, this term has become mainstream with dating apps such as OkCupid, as people can optionally define their sexual orientations as “sapiosexual.”

Example:

A: 丽丽的男朋友又矮又胖,她怎么看上这么个人呢?

Lìlì de nánpéngyou yòu ǎi yòu pàng,tā zěnme kànshang zhème gè rén ne?

Lili’s boyfriend is short and fat. Why is she into such a person?

B: 听说他有两个博士学位,是一所著名大学的教授

Tīngshuō tā yǒu liǎngge bóshì xuéwèi,shì yīsuǒ zhùmíng dàxué de jiàoshòu。

They say he is a professor with a prestigious university, with two doctoral degrees.

A: 没想到丽丽是智性恋。

Méixiǎng dào Lìlì shì zhi xìng liàn。

It didn’t occur to me that she’s sapiosexual.
