The center aims to solve the problems of insufficient computing power and network latency that have long affected video streaming, smart communities, smart health care, industrial Internet and other scenarios.

The opening of the center marks Tencent Cloud taking the lead in connecting 5G and edge computing applications from hardware to software, becoming the first cloud manufacturer with holistic delivery capability in China, according to Shenzhen Economic Daily.

As one of the key technologies of 5G, edge computing will greatly reduce the latency of data processing and service delivery by providing data and computing services close to the edge of the network.

According to Tencent Cloud, its 5G edge computing center in Tencent Binhai Building, the company’s head office, displays the cutting-edge research results and a comprehensive product matrix of the cloud vendor in the 5G edge computing field by connecting edge computing products of hardware, network, platform and application.

It is reported that Tencent Cloud is expected to complete the construction of nearly 300 edge computing centers by the end of 2020 to fully support all industries and professions to accelerate digital transformation.
