Experts attending a forum Saturday advised Shenzhen to introduce world-class sports clubs to stimulate the development of its sports industry, sznews.com reported yesterday.

The experts included Liu Dongfeng, a professor with Shanghai University of Sport, Shi Lei, a professor with the School of Cultural Industry Management, Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College, and He Wenyi, secretary general of Peking University National Sports Industry Research Base. They gave lectures on modes of sports cities in China and Shenzhen’s trajectory at the forum.

Liu believes introducing global sporting events is the most effective and direct way for a city to develop its sports industry. A strategy of constructing fixed brand sporting events, top international sports leagues and a single sports event could be made for the development of the sports industry.

Shi suggested Shenzhen invest more on leisure sports facilities, encouraging the establishment of leisure sports clubs and supporting the development of private sports clubs.

On the future trend of sports, He suggested Sports+ be extended to stimulate a city’s industrial upgrading. Through standard construction and service, a city can solve the problems such as a shortage of sports venues in communities, medical treatment in communities, nursing homes for elderly people, and thus reduce medical expenses and improve residents’ sense of happiness.
