Shenzhen is handing out 100,000 cash coupons for citizens to purchase books at brick-and-mortar bookstores as the Reading Month comes into full swing.

The cash coupons are divided into two kinds, worth 30 yuan (US$4.56) and 50 yuan, which can be used when the book purchase reaches the face value of the coupons.

The activity, with the participation of more than 100 bookstores, is jointly organized by the municipal publicity and culture fund and the Shenzhen branch of China Construction Bank. The amount of the coupons used by consumers will be borne by the organizers.

The coupons can be received through the WeChat account “szyiwenhui” (深圳艺文惠) or WeChat mini-program “建行生活CCBgo” starting Nov. 23. After receiving the coupons, citizens can purchase books in all participating bookstores before Dec. 6.

It is noteworthy that this activity will coincide with the 2nd Shenzhen Book Fair, which will be held from Nov. 27 to Dec. 6. The cash coupons can also be used in a series of promotions launched at the book fair.

The main venue of the fair will be located in the north area of Shenzhen Book City CBD Store and the adjoining square.

A number of well-known writers, experts and scholars, such as Liu Zhenyun, Shen Shixi, Jiang Fangzhou, Liu Tong and Wu Meizhen, will attend the book fair and interact with readers during the fair.

It is reported that nearly 200,000 kinds of books will be exhibited and sold by 300 high-quality publishing institutions in China, and about 40 well-known publishers will be invited to participate in outdoor exhibitions and sales.

Shenzhen Reading Month is the city’s annual event that takes place in November.
