Huanggang Checkpoint has a special police team with members who use different sets of talented skills. They are not only proficient at police work, but also integrating their skills in foreign languages and arts into work situations, sznews.com reported Thursday.

The Li Lu demonstration team, founded in 2018, was named after their team leader Li Lu, an immigration police officer with commanding knowledge of English and French. Her solid foreign-language communication skills provide significant help in clearing foreign tourists.

There are also talented officers skilled in English, Japanese, German, Spanish, Korean and Arabic on the team.

With the help of team member Tang Zijun, who is fluent in Spanish, the Guangdong provincial public security authority figured out the meaning of crucial evidence from suspects of a criminal gang engaged in cross-border women trafficking.

Yang Liu, who has a good command of English, served as a translator at the 2019 China Import and Export Fair that was held in Guangzhou.

These foreign language helping hands also spend time teaching colleagues and help them pick up basic communication skills in English.

One of the team members, Peng Minling, is good at drawing. Her drawings depict the immigration police’s daily life, lively and delicate. The anime and short videos that Peng created have won several awards presented by the Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of Justice.

Zhang Zusheng is warmly called teacher Zhang by his colleagues as he has accumulated knowledge of thousands of years of history. His stories about the Party history and experiences of figures such as Zhou Enlai and Zhu De stirred up his colleagues’ interests in learning Party history. Zhang has also set up his own columns in Ximalaya and Yunting, audio-streaming service platforms, to share stories with his audience.

Many immigration police officers felt the intense pressure from the double strain of security control and disease prevention and control at the checkpoint during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ke Wenseng, who graduated with a major in psychology, established a psychological counseling station and recorded a video to introduce methods for reducing anxiety. Some police officers have learnt to cope with stress under Ke’s instruction.
