Rail hub expanded to receive more trains

The expansion project of Shenzhen North Railway Station was completed recently with six lines added to increase its passenger handling capacity.

The renovation paved the way for connecting trains running on the Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Rail, Shenzhen-Shenshan High-speed Rail and Shenzhen-Maoming High-speed Rail.

Shenzhen North Railway Station now operates 221.5 pairs of trains a day, in additional to 75.5 pairs of trains passing through the station. Around 149,000 passengers leave the city through the North Railway Station a day on average.

The tunnel projects of the Shenzhen section of Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Rail have been recently completed. There are eight tunnels of the the Shenzhen section between Tangxia Station and Shenzhen North Railway Station. The 436-kilometer Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Rail will cut the trip between the two cities down to two hours from the present seven hours upon operation next year.

With access to the Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Rail, daily passenger turnover will reach 170,000, up by 14 percent. The trains departing from the city and arriving at the city as a final destination will reach 266 pairs,” said Zhang Ming, deputy head of the station.

With more lines to be connected with the station, the trains operated by the station each day will reach 413 pairs.
