China and Egypt are the cradles of two great civilizations, and the two ancient nations have many cultural differences and similarities. Dozens of residents in Guanlan Subdistrict in Longhua, including local and expat residents, had a chance to share their views on the two great cultures in an event organized by the Party committee of Guanlan Subdistrict at MH Maker in Longhua District on Sunday.

Co-organized by Guanlan Service Center for Social Organizations, the event took “Exploring Egypt” as its theme to encourage culture sharing activities among local residents and expatriates.

At the event, expat residents shared their views on the ancient culture of Egypt and all participants had a unique journey exploring the mysterious culture by watching videos of the magnificent pyramids, beautiful banks of the Nile River, mysterious Sphinx and a large number of ancient temples in Egypt.

A handicrafts teacher from MH Maker, surnamed Zhao, introduced traditional Chinese hand-painted clay engraving to participants and taught them the ancient Chinese art.

Dunhuang murals were also introduced at the event. Zhao told the participants that in primitive society, human beings painted various kinds of figures on cave walls to record events, which were the earliest murals. Dunhuang Mogao Caves, a world cultural heritage site, displays the style and artistic height of ancient Chinese murals. The residents also had a chance to have a look at a replica of one of the Dunhuang murals.

The event is one of a series of activities organized by the subdistrict to enhance cultural exchanges among local and expat residents. Organizers said more events, themed on different countries and cultures, will be held in the future.
