Meaning:

Literally translated as “green bell pepper,” this term is similar to “青教” (qīngjiào) in pronunciation, which is short for “青年教师” (qīngnián jiàoshī: young teacher). Therefore, it’s used as a nickname for young college teachers.

Example:

A: 你周末去哪儿玩了?好像很累的样子。

Nǐ zhōumò qù’nǎr wán le?Hǎoxiàng hěn lèi de yàngzi。

Where did you travel over the weekend? You look exhausted.

B: 我去成都了,参加一个表妹的婚礼。她谈了几次恋爱,最后嫁了一个青椒。

Wǒ qù chéngdū le,cānjiā yīgè biǎomèi de hūnlǐ。Tā tán le jǐcì liàn’ài,zuìhòu jià le yīgè qīngjiāo。

I went to Chengdu to attend my cousin’s wedding. She dated a few guys and in the end married a young college teacher.
