The transport authority will tighten COVID-19 prevention and control measures at major transportation terminals during the Spring Festival travel season that will start Thursday.

As more residents have been encouraged to stay in the city for the holidays, the authority will set up temporary observation sites at 28 transportation hubs and implement strict measures to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19.

At 16 transportation terminals like Shenzhen Railway Station, the bureau has set up 64 temporary waiting halls for emergency situations that can hold 92,000 people. Emergency plans have been worked out to divert stranded passengers in emergency situations like sudden bad weather.

The Metro services will be extended to midnight on nine days: Feb. 6-9 and Feb. 16-20. Between Feb. 21 and 28, Line 1, 3, 4, 5 and 11 will extend services for an hour.

The services of 38 bus routes that link with the airport and railway stations will be extended and 45 standby buses will be arranged to divert passengers. At tourism sites like Window of the World, OCT Harbor and Shenzhen Bay Park, the transport bureau will increase bus services. The bureau will also ensure the cab supply at high-speed rail stations, Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport and Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint for the three days before the holidays and the fourth day to 16th day of the first month of the lunar New Year.

A total of 1,000 cabs from 10 cab companies have been arranged to be on standby for emergencies.
