As the Spring Festival holiday is only half a month away, major e-commerce platforms in Shenzhen have adopted a host of measures to encourage their employees to stay in the city during the holiday.

So far, many of the workers on these platforms have readily responded to the call, and the platforms are expected to play an irreplaceable role in ensuring the material supplies of citizens during the holiday, Shenzhen Evening News reported yesterday.

Wan Liangkun, a deliveryman of China’s leading e-commerce platform Meituan, told the News that his company has launched many subsidies and reward incentives for employees who will continue working during the Spring Festival holiday.

“The reward is up to nearly 10,000 yuan (US$1,544). I plan to use the time to make more money and go back to my hometown to visit my family when the pandemic situation is stable,” Wan was quoted as saying.

Guo Xuluan, a 24-year-old worker in Freshippo, Alibaba Group’s online-to-offline food chain, also said she decided not to return to her hometown in the Chaoshan area and will stay in Shenzhen during the holiday.

Guo, who has been working in Shenzhen for almost two years, is in charge of online order allocation and commodity inspection of Freshippo’s Xiangyueli store in Nanshan District.

Tang Xin from Sichuan Province is one of Dingdong Maicai’s distributors who chose to stay in Shenzhen. Dingdong Maicai is a fresh produce and grocery e-commerce platform where users can place orders online and have their purchases delivered to their doorstep.

According to Tang, this will be his second Spring Festival in Shenzhen although he has only worked for the platform for a year. Tang admitted that he was unwilling to stay in the city for the holiday at first as Spring Festival is the time for family reunions.

But as the pandemic control measures became tougher, his grandfather called him and also advised him not to go back to their hometown. “I can continue to serve Shenzhen citizens,” Tang said with a smile.

Logistic companies including ZTO Express, STO Express, YTO Express and Yunda Express will also work to ensure that purchases ordered online can be delivered as usual.
