The bookings for scenic spots and hotel rooms in Shenzhen for the upcoming Spring Festival holiday topped expectations, as people are encouraged to stay put in the cities they work during the festival, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported Thursday.

Consumers are increasingly inclined to travel to destinations in close proximity for a short vacation that features a slow-paced lifestyle, and some prefer to spend the holiday at a hotel for leisure and entertainment, said the Daily.

Shanghai, Sanya (in Hainan Province), Beijing, Guangzhou, Suzhou and Hangzhou (in Zhejiang Province), Nanjing (in Jiangsu Province), Dali (in Yunnan Province), Shenzhen and Chongqing are the top 10 cities in terms of hotel bookings for the upcoming Spring Festival holiday, data from the Chinese online travel service provider Ctrip showed.

Suburban resort hotels and urban resort hotels are more popular with Shenzhen consumers, according to the data.

The search and booking volume of tickets for local tourist attractions such as Window of the World, Shenzhen Safari Park, Shenzhen Happy Valley, Splendid China • China Folk Culture Villages, and OCT East have also seen a significant increase, as a large number of citizens choose to stay in the city for the holiday, said the Daily.

Meanwhile, travel companies are making efforts to earn profits as well as ensure tourists’ health amid the COVID-19 pandemic. For instance, Ctrip has joined hands with nearly 100,000 hotels to further optimize their room cancellation policies.

Two other Chinese online travel agencies, LY.com and Lvmama.com, have also launched various themed activities and discounts to woo consumers in response to the initiative of staying in one’s working city during the Spring Festival holiday.
