“深圳女孩” literally means “Shenzhen girls.” The terms is now used in a positive way to describe a group of self-reliant young women, usually with strong academic backgrounds, who focus their time and energy to work to become financially self-sufficient.
The term popped onto hot topics lists on China’s social media platforms after a Weibo blogger revealed that she was told by her Shenzhen friends that girls prefer money topics and ways to become financially independent in their social gatherings in Shenzhen. Instead of celebrity gossips and relationship complaints, real estate, stock markets and investment projects are the topics of common interest.

Yǐqián wǒ yǐwéi wǒ zhǐshìge píngpíngwúqí de ài gǎoqián de sìchuān nǚháiér, xiànzài cái zhīdào woshì yígè dìdìdàodào de Shēnzhèn nǚháiér。
