The cooperation in science and technology should be the highlight of Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), according to a political adviser of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

During an interview with Shenzhen Economic Daily, Wang Mingfan, chairman and president with China Boton Group, said Shenzhen and Hong Kong complement each other in many fields, but are incompatible in regulations and standards, which leads to barriers in talent exchanges and employment accessibility.

“Talent, capital, goods and information are basic elements for regional cooperation, but there are many restrictions in theses aspects between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. For example, there are still roaming fees between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. Though it is not a big issue, it forms barriers for communications,” said Wang.

Wang was elected a member of the CPPCC National Committee in 2018. He put forward a proposal on promoting medical integration in the GBA in 2020. The proposal had been filed by the national committee. In the reply to the proposal, the Guangdong government said the proposal offered insights for the cooperation of GBA cities in talent cultivation, academic research and Internet+health-care services.

In 2020, Wang participated in the research of building the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Checkpoint Economic Belt and promoting GBA cooperation.

In Boton’s R&D building in Xili, Nanshan District, Wang set up an exchange base providing internship to young people from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. Wang, on many occasions, encouraged these young people to seize the historic opportunities and integrate into the overall development of the country.
