Meaning:

“炸” means “to explode,” and “场” means “site.” Often used in the context of a show, this term coined by Chinese netizens refers to the scenario where a very skilled or talented performer immediately wins over the audience with an extraordinary performance. It can also be used in a more general sense where something or someone is very impressive.

Example:

A: 昨天我们部门同事一起去唱K,大家都很嗨。

Zuótiān wǒmen bùmén tóngshì yīqǐ qù chàng K,dàjiā dōu hěn hāi。

All the people in my department went to sing Karaoke yesterday, and we had a whale of time.

B: 小李也去了吗?他总是很害羞不太合群的样子。

Xiǎolǐ yě qù le ma?Tā zǒngshì hěn hàixiū bú tài héqún de yàngzi。

Did Xiao Li go with you? He seems to be a shy loner.

A: 他也唱了两首歌,一开口就炸场了。

Tā yě chàngle liǎngshǒugē,yī kāikǒu jiù zhàchǎng le。

Yes, and sang two songs, and swept us off our feet with his singing.

B: 真没想到。

Zhēn méi xiǎngdào。

What a surprise!
