Around 50 expats received their second COVID-19 vaccine shot at Technology Building in Nanshan District on Friday, one of the city’s vaccination sites designated for foreign nationals, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan compatriots.

They completed their shots with the help of Shekou Management and Service Center For Expats. Demand for vaccination surged since the new local and imported cases broke out in Guangzhou, Foshan and Shenzhen late last month. However, foreigners in Shenzhen faced challenges getting their vaccines from making reservations, navigating the language barrier and unfamiliarity with the local vaccination system.

To address these issues, Shekou Management and Service Center for Expats arranged for expats’ group appointment for their second shot with the support from the Shekou Subdistrict Office and Shenzhen Shekou People’s Hospital. The center’s efforts were warmly received by the expat communities.

Prior to the group vaccination, the center’s staff visited the vaccination site, pre-registered for the expat group and guided those who need to pay for the shot. On site, they also helped expats fill in the Letter of Commitment for the shot in English and guided them during the vaccination process.

“The group appointment saved time and solved our problems. And the total vaccination process is smooth and highly efficient,” said Canadian Susan Kim at an interview after the group vaccine.

Brazilian Dani Lutti expressed gratitude and gave a thumbs-up to the service organized by the center after getting the second shot Friday, saying it was efficient and well-organized.

Shekou is the home to the largest expatriate community in Shenzhen with 8,000 registered foreigners.
