Meaning:

“刷” means “to swipe,” and “脸” means “face.” Similar to swiping a card to verify one’s identity for purposes of entering a place or making a payment, “swiping one’s face” refers to the action of standing in front of a camera to have one’s facial recognition data registered by a biometric authentication application in order to verify one’s identity. Face swiping is increasingly used in security inspection. Not only has it become normalized for use as an ID card verification process in airports and railway stations, but more and more places are following suit, including social media platforms and mobile payments, among others. However, some people are concerned that the practice might pose potential risks of privacy infringement.

Example:

A: 听说你们搬进了新大楼办公。

Tīngshuō nǐmen bān jìn le xīn dàlóu bàngōng。

I’ve heard that you guys are now working in a new office building.

B: 是的,现在我们每天刷脸进办公室。系统很智能,戴着口罩都能识别身份。

Shì de,xiànzài wǒmen měitiān shuāliǎn jìn bàngōngshì。Xìtǒng hěn zhìnéng,dài zhe kǒuzhào dōu néng shíbié shēnfèn。

Yeah, we get into the office by swiping our face now. The system is quite intelligent, and can identify me even when I’m wearing a face mask.
