Shenzhen's transport bureau recently released a report on the city’s road traffic operation showing the most and least congested roads in Shenzhen for this year’s third quarter (Q3), employing big data use.

The report showed that the city’s road network traffic is in good condition with an average speed of 25 kilometers per hour during morning and evening rush hours. Morning traffic index was 3.8 or smooth with an average speed of 26.6 kilometers per hour, while evening traffic index was 5 or slow with an average speed of 23.6 kilometers per hour.

The report also unveiled the city’s most congested roads and expressways, as well as the least congested ones in Q3.

In the report, Shenzhen’s five most congested trunk road sections are: two sections of Keyuan North Road (Langshan Road-Beihuan Boulevard, north to south, and Shennan Boulevard-Kehua Road, south to north), Shangbu South Road (Binhe Boulevard-Shennan Middle Road, south to north), Bulong Road (Jingfen Road-Kejiyuan Road, south to north) and Kejiyuan Road (Jingfen Road-Bulong Road, east to west).

Likewise, the five most congested highways are: Binhai Boulevard (Nanhai Boulevard-Nanshan Boulevard, east to west), elevated part of Yueliangwan Boulevard (Mawan Boulevard-Xinghai Boulevard, south to north), Nigang West Road (Nigang East Road-Bagua Road, east to west), Fulong Road (Liuxian Boulevard-Nanping Expressway, north to south) and Xiangmihu Road (Qiaoxiang Road-Beihuan Boulevard, south to north).

On the other hand, the five least congested highways are: two sections of Yanlong Boulevard (Longping West Road-Qinglin Road, east to west, and vice-versa), two sections of Shenzhen-Yantian Second Passage (Luosha Road-Yanba Expressway, west to east, and vice-versa), and Beihuan Boulevard (Zhongkang Road-Meicun Road, east to west).

The least congested trunk roads are: Danping Road (Jihe Expressway-Danping Expressway, north to south), two sections of Yanlong Boulevard (Nongxuan Road-Xinsheng Road, east to west, and Changxing North Road-Longxi Middle Road, west to east), Banlan Boulevard (Banli Boulevard-Huanguan South Road, South to north) and Guangzhou-Shenzhen Road (Xingye First Road-Nanhuan Road, south to north).

With the opening of Nanping Expressway’s Phase II and the completion of Shahe West Road’s renovation in July this year, the city’s traffic situation has improved. Rush hour traffic index during working days stood at 4.6, down 6.1 percent prior to these two sections’ opening.
