Meaning:

“清醒” means “sober,” and “人” means “person.” Literally meaning “a sober person,” this term is jokingly used by Chinese netizens to refer to those who have seen through all the gimmicks of the Single’s Day (Nov. 11) online sales campaign so that they did not join the shopping spree and rush to buy things they didn’t really need.

Example:

A: 双十一你买了什么没有?

Shuāngshíyī nǐ mǎi le shénme méiyǒu?

Did you buy anything during the Single’s Day sales promotion?

B: 我倒是上网逛了逛,但没发现什么想买的。

Wǒ dǎoshì shàngwǎng guàngleguàng,dàn méi fāxiàn shénme xiǎng mǎi de。

I did take some time to check online but didn’t see anything I’d like to buy.

A: 你可真是个清醒人。

Nǐ kě zhēn shì ge qīngxǐngrén。

You are such a reasonable consumer.
