DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is the chemical name for the molecule that carries genetic instructions in all living things. “动了” means “to become active.” This term coined by Chinese netizens refers to the scenario where something that previously made a deep first impression (as if the experience was attached to one’s DNA) reappears and therefore reactivates a memory. This can be roughly translated as “déjà vu” or “ring a bell.” Sometimes people also use it to mean “deeply touched by something familiar.”
