Meaning:

“社交” means “to socialize,” and “复健” means “rehabilitation.” A derivative of the term “社交恐惧症” (shèjiāo kǒngjùzhèng, meaning “social anxiety disorder,” or SAD, not to be confused with “seasonal affective disorder”), this phrase coined by Chinese netizens became a buzzword ahead of the Chinese New Year, a time when many will inevitably attend social gatherings once they return to their hometowns for family reunions. Although most people who claim to suffer from SAD use the term as an exaggeration rather than actually having physical symptoms and depression in social situations, others have come up with timely advice to help them to “rehabilitate from SAD.” One strategy suggests people to take the initiative in a conversation by redirecting the topic of discussion to the other person.

Example:

A: 过年你回老家吗?

Guònián nǐ huí lǎojiā ma?

Will you go back to your hometown for the Chinese New Year?

B: 回。已经有同事教我几招社交复健的好办法了。

Huí。Yǐjīng yǒu tóngshì jiāo wǒ jǐzhāo shèjiāo fùjiàn de hǎo bànfǎ le。

Yes, I will. A colleague has already offered me some tips on how to overcome my SAD in a crowd.
