The eastbound tunnel of the Guimiao Road renovation project between Yueliangwan Boulevard and Houhaibin Road was officially put into operation yesterday and is expected to relieve traffic congestion in the area.
The 4.9-kilometer Phase I renovation project starts from Linhai Boulevard in Qianhai and connects to Binhai Boulevard by passing Qianhai and Yueliangwan Boulevard and running along Guimiao Road underground. The tunnel section that was put into use extends 3.29 kilometers.
The renovation project includes a two-way six-to-eight-lane ground-level road, which was designed for 50-kilometer-per-hour traffic, and a two-way six-lane underground road designed for 80-kilometer-per-hour traffic.
The opening of the road, an important part of Binhai Boulevard’s trunk network, will enhance Qianhai’s connectivity with Luohu and Futian districts. It will be connected with the west section of Binhai Boulevard and offer quick access to Bao’an District and the Shenzhen airport.
The tunnel adopted an air purification system to reduce the impact of vehicle emissions on the tunnel and surrounding neighborhoods. The noise proof screen at the tunnel’s three major exits in the west, east and central parts are arch-shaped, signifying Qianhai’s flying wings. The tunnel’s interior was designed with fireproof enamel pressed steel panel and continuous lighting strips, creating a comfortable, bright and safe driving environment.
