Some residents in Tangyan Village in Shangsha Community, Shatou Subdistrict in Futian District have been relocated for centralized quarantine and health monitoring for 14 days, according to a notice issued by the district’s COVID-19 prevention and control command office Thursday.

Meanwhile, the authority will thoroughly disinfect the area’s drainage system and public environment. Residents can return after the assessment of the environment, according to the notice.

It is unknown how many people have been relocated under the updated, tightened measures.

A tenant surnamed Liu told Shenzhen Daily on Thursday that he was informed to prepare to leave at around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. Liu, along with his neighbors, was arranged to take buses and arrived at the quarantine facility at around 6 a.m. Thursday.

During the relocation, priority was given to the elderly, children and those bedridden due to serious illnesses or chronic diseases. Residents were allowed to take their pets such as cats and dogs with them. However, for large pets, their owners were advised to consign them to pet shops, the city’s health commission said on its WeChat account.

Ruipeng Pet Medical Service Co. Ltd., in cooperation with Shatou Subdistrict, offered free pet caring services to people who are affected by COVID. Those who consign their pets can add the company’s WeChat 18033092685, and leave a message with their names, phone numbers and addresses in Shangsha.

During a phone interview Thursday, the pet shop said it had received pets for consignment and it is setting up more kennels. Considering its capacity, the service is free only to Shangsha residents. The pets will be taken care of by volunteers and professionals.

Residents can also call Futian District’s hotlines 2881-3300 or 8288-9813 for help and inquiries.

The city is facing a grim situation battling COVID, and Shangsha, a densely populated community estimated to have around 60,000 people, has been put under COVID control since Feb. 22.

In addition, Tangyan Village is one of the areas in Shatou Subdistrict that was locked down due to the pandemic.
