Video artworks created by six international artists are on display at the InJoy shopping mall in Futian District.

German artist Timo Helgert’s works draw inspiration from classical escapism and elements from modern city life. His project “The Return of Nature” consists of a series of videos, published on Instagram, that show us symbolic places of cities around the world, “infested” by nature. The streets, the passageways and the artificial soil are replaced by flowering meadows, the sounds of nature and the chirping of birds. His aim is to create hope and peace in a busy world and the videos put the focus on the beauty found in simple things.

London-based award-winning artist Zadok Ben-David is widely acclaimed for his sculptures, installations and public artworks. He explores themes linked to human nature and evolution. His work is often referred to as poetic and magical, always oscillating between delicate miniature-works and monumental installations. He represented his country Israel at the Venice Biennale in 1988 and has participated in numerous biennales worldwide.

Don’t miss his thought-provoking video installation “Conversation Peace” created in collaboration with IdoSherf and Shahar Brill. Two human silhouettes face each other, either as a confrontation or a conversation, as the narrative reflects on how easily peace can descend into a futile war.

“The relationship between humanity and nature is one which is central to my work. I have always been fascinated by the idea of how humans rely on nature for survival yet seem to forget this essential fact in everyday life. Humans are an intrinsic part of nature rather than separate from it,” he explained.

At the exhibition, visitors can also admire video works by Lucas Casagrande from Argentina, Marc Guardiola from Spain and Chiaozza (a U.S. artist duo comprised of Terri Chiao and Adam Frezza).

Using play as a collaborative tool to explore the intersection of the natural and imagined worlds, Chiaozza creates fantastical works of art that incorporate unusual textures and unexpected forms. Humor, color and pattern intersect to immerse viewers in the artists’ world of wonderment. In their video “Paper Forest,” a tiny paper forest comes to life throughout the course of a day, from the first ray of daylight to dusk and starlight. The set is created from paper mache, cut paper, flocking, plaster and mirrored Plexiglas, filmed on a rotating disc. The sound was recorded largely from paper and plants, such as rustled newsprint, plucked cactus thorns, and human breathsounds.
