Five family-friendly stage plays to hit Pingshan Theater

Five family-friendly plays presented by Touch Laboratory and directed by young Chinese director Liu Xiaoyi will be put on stage at the Pingshan Theater through Aug. 14.

Touch Laboratory is a Beijing-based theatrical art studio founded by Liu in 2015. Liu is passionate about exploring the possibilities of theatrical art from different perspectives and with various elements. He is the puppet theater director of the Chinese version of the stage play “War Horse” and the director of the Chinese version of the Broadway musical “Spring Awakening.” His other works include Chinese musicals “Wu Kong,” “In the Mood for Sorrow” and “The Throne and the Poetry.”


‘Me and the Virus, Hide & Seek’

When scientists Douding and Pike plan to go home after a journey at a glacier to search for ancient viruses, they accidentally go on an adventure to the world of viruses.

This is a play “performed” by fruits and vegetables, which come alive one night and embark on an adventure in a world of fables.

‘The Wing Maker’

This is a puppet show performed in a suitcase. In the suitcase, there is an old man who makes wings. Every day he makes many wings for kids who want to fly. One day, he strains to make a pair of wings for himself. While he is enjoying his flight, he meets an injured puppy, and a wonderful story unveils.

“Gululu and Hululu’s Journey of Poetry”

‘Gululu and Hululu’s Journey of Poetry’

When Gululu and Hululu get lost in darkness, they meet a new friend named Didida. The three of them start wandering in the universe until a black hole brings them into a mysterious room. In the room, they meet the God of Book, who jumps out of a poetry book and offers to send them home if they can complete tasks about poems of the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Unluckily, none of them can understand the characters in the book. An idea then occurs to Didida. They decide to complete the tasks in a special way.

“Little Planet”

‘Little Planet’

This is also a puppet show performed in a suitcase. Hululu and Gululu are two friends living on the planet of Gulala. Every day, they use a telescope to observe other planets in the distance. One day, they find a black planet where a pair of slippers, a pair of socks, a painting, a doll and a cat live. Hululu and Gululu then start a journey to the planet.
