1st 'Ingenuity Cup' AI contest launched

The first “Ingenuity Cup” National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Innovation Application Competition officially kicked off Thursday, the organizers announced at an online launching ceremony on the same day.

The contest is jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Shenzhen Municipal Government.

Its co-organizers include the China Academy of Information and Communication Technology and the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China.

The “Ingenuity Cup” competition is open to participants from all over the world and will run until December. The event aims to promote the development of AI engineering and the construction of industrial ecology. It also aims to deepen the integration of AI and the real economy.

The event consists of three preliminary thematic contests that will take place online from August to November, and the finals will be arranged offline between November and December.

Among them, a contest themed on sustainability for AI and the finals are scheduled to be held in Shenzhen. Shanghai and Guangzhou will host contests focusing on technological innovation and empowering industry, respectively.

The thematic match in Shenzhen revolves around the foundational technological ecology, such as the application of development framework engineering and integrated software and hardware development.

It will also select outstanding technological achievements and solutions in areas such as intelligent driving, smart city and AI+sustainable development.

The winning teams and individuals will be awarded certificates and prizes. Their projects will also have the opportunity to obtain financial support and enjoy services for product inspection and testing, as well as technology transfer.

Participants must register and submit their competition entries by Sept. 26 via the competition’s official website at http://www.aiinnovation.com.cn/#/ and the WeChat account “兴智杯全国人工智能创新应用大赛.”

With the support of the government, Shenzhen possesses a complete and advanced AI industry chain. It was home to 1,318 AI-related enterprises by the end of 2020, ranking second in China, up 25.2% year on year, a report by Shenzhen Artificial Intelligence Industry Association showed.
