Although it was the first time Chie and her husband Matteo Convertino and son Leonardo Convertino had ever visited the city of Shaoguan on Saturday and Sunday, the Japanese mom thinks the trip benefited her 3-year-old son in every sense as he was able to be connected to nature and visit South China Tigers.

“The trip is good for kids, and it educates them in terms of protecting nature and learning discipline,” Chie said.

She told Shenzhen Daily that her family like to go out and have outdoor activities, which makes her enjoy the Shaoguan trip even more.

Chie said she and her family had a fun time at the South China Tiger Breeding and Research Base where they learned a lot about the South China Tigers, which have been listed as “critically endangered (possibly extinct in the wild)” in the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species.

“We learned about the history and the natural environment in the base, we also knew that the local government is passionate about building this base into a place where humans and nature coexist,” she said.

Chie said she was very happy to see how lively and vibrant the South China Tigers are in the base, because it makes her feel sad to go to the zoo and see the animals having little freedom.

Chie said the visit to the Shaoguan Urban Planning Exhibition Hall inspired her the most when she learned about the efforts the city government have made to develop the economy and protect nature.
