A new greenway has recently opened to the public on a trial basis, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

Wutong Mountain and River Greenway, located at Yuanshan Subdistrict in Longgang District, spans 2.4 kilometers long, starting from the Silian estuary and ending at Dahe Cultural and Sports Center.

The construction area covers about 156,600 square meters, extending the greenbelt along the river and improving the surrounding landscape’s quality. It creates a good walking path for pedestrians and hikers.

Unlike ordinary greenways, this greenway combines the needs of community residents, student groups, business offices, migrant workers and other people in designing its nine theme spaces.

The themes spaces include a children’s park, an ecological community park, a riverside pavilion, a lecture hall, a performance stage, a fluorescent runway, a water-playing space, a star-sky square, and a playground on the water.

Sun Chuanhui, a staff member of Yuanshan water affairs management center, told the Daily that the greenway’s upper reaches are designed for various outdoor activities that support the concept of a child-friendly city.

The middle reaches focus on dynamic interactive spaces, which narrows the distance between people and nature.

The downstream features a fashionable atmosphere and can host theme activities such as art carnivals.

“This greenway is shaded all the way, and it’s very comfortable for walking. Every day I come here with some neighbors,” a local resident surnamed Liao told the newspaper.

“The new greenway is pleasing to the eyes. It not only creates a green living space, but also makes residents’ life more comfortable. This is a real livelihood project,” said Wang Peng, a resident from the nearby Xinghezhihui community.
