Two coastal corridors — the Guanhu East section and Yangmeikeng Luzui Boulevard section of the city’s east sea dike renovation project (third phase) in Dapeng Peninsula — have opened to the public, sources from the Shenzhen Municipal Water Authority said.

Guanhu East sea dike is located at Guanhucun in Kuichong Subdistrict, Dapeng New Area. The whole corridor project starts from Guanhujiao before reaching Wuni River estuary, including 1.172 kilometers of newly built sea wall. The structure adopts a multilayered embankment design, combined with a natural outer defense line, to create a continuous embankment space.

The Luzui Boulevard section is located at the Yangmeikeng East section in Nan’ao Subdistrict, between an ecological preservation zone and a first-level marine protected area. The inner sea is a coral reef reserve area.

Dapeng Peninsula’s sea dikes suffered from natural disasters, especially Super Typhoon Mangkhut in September 2018. The dikes were heavily damaged and needed urgent reconstruction.

The renovation project is about 15.6 kilometers long, including sea dikes, boardwalks, ecological landscapes and supporting facilities. Under the project, about 13.8 kilometers of sea walls are being rebuilt or consolidated, including Kuichong Shayuchong, Guanhu East, Nan’ao Moon Bay East, Yangmeikeng, Dongshan and Pengcheng East sea walls, according to the authority.

After the completion, the project will greatly enhance Dapeng New Area’s ability to resist storm surge disasters, effectively protect the safety of people’s lives and property, and promote the city’s healthy and sustainable development.

A superintendent said that the east sea dike renovation project (third phase) aims to build the most beautiful coastal corridors while enhancing safety. In the future, the project’s Dongshan, Shayuchong and Moon Bay sections will gradually open to the public, the authority said.
