Meaning:

The transliteration of the Japanese saying “だめ,” this term can be translated as “no way, you can’t, I don’t allow it.” It’s often used by women in conversations with those close to them, sometimes expressing a kind of fake annoyance.

Example:

A: 今天我给你做饭好不好?吃完饭我们一起看剧。

Jīntiān wǒ gěi nǐ zuòfàn hǎobuhǎo? Chī wán fàn wǒmen yīqǐ kànjù。

How about letting me cook your dinner today? We can watch a show together after the meal.

B: 达咩。我今天要加班,不知道要忙到几点。

Dámiē。 Wǒ jīntiān yào jiābān, bù zhīdào yào máng dào jǐdiǎn。

No way. I have to work overtime today, and don’t know when I will be off the hook.
