Shenzhen University (SZU) held a ceremony to welcome over 12,000 new students and inaugurate the new academic year on its Yuehai and Lihu campuses in Nanshan District on Saturday night.

Among the students, 238 are international students from 55 countries and there are 7,436 freshmen, 5,010 postgraduate and 245 doctoral students.

Some of the postgraduate students completed their bachelor’s degrees at prestigious universities such as Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University and University of Science and Technology of China, according to SZU.

It is worth noticing that SZU added the supply chain management major this year in a bid to support Shenzhen in establishing a global supply chain management center and becoming a supply chain financial city.

Mao Junfa, president of SZU, congratulated students for embarking on a new journey at SZU and urged students to work hard in their youth.

Mao emphasized in his speech that working hard is the only certainty amid all uncertainties. Mao also encouraged students to take on the responsibility of a SZU student and to become their own hero, each other’s hero and the hero of the times.
