A total of 126 star Cantonese cuisine chefs will get certified this year by the Shenzhen Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau in a bid to promote the high-quality development of the “Cantonese Cuisine Chef” project, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.

The star Cantonese cuisine chefs, who received a one- to five-star rating, have been recommended and accredited once a year since 2021.

For 2022, 72 one-star, 36 two-star and 18 three-star Cantonese cuisine chefs will be certified in Shenzhen. The city will also recommend 15 chefs to be certified as four- and five-star Cantonese cuisine chefs.

According to the bureau, in principle, the Cantonese cuisine chefs who will get certified must have permanent household registration or are permanent residents in Shenzhen.

The candidates must be involved in making Cantonese cuisine (pastry) for a certain number of years and are currently engaged in making Cantonese cuisine (pastry) in Shenzhen.

The rating for one- to three-star Cantonese cuisine chefs will be based on the chef’s merits, awards, experience and contributions in promoting Cantonese cuisine.

Honorary certificates will be issued to chefs who are accredited as star Cantonese cuisine chefs, and the chefs can hang their signs up for businesses.
