The 1.96-kilometer westward tunnel of Guimiao Road was put into use at 6 p.m. yesterday, marking the operation of the underground project, which will greatly improve the traffic situation in Shenzhen Hi-tech Industrial Park in Nanshan District and the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone.

The 3.29-kilometer eastward tunnel of Guimiao Road was put into use in February this year.

The two tunnels’ operation enabled vehicles to run between Qianhai and Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base in five minutes, and Futian CBD in 15 minutes. At the same time, the tunnels will divert vehicles on Guimiao Road and relieve traffic at Shenzhen Hi-tech Industrial Park.

According to Xu Yan from Shenzhen Transportation Public Facility Construction Center, the 4.9-kilometer Guimiao Road renovation project starts from Menghai Boulevard in Qianhai in the west and ends at Shennan Boulevard’s Houhaibin Overpass in Nanshan. The ground-level part has six to eight lanes serving vehicles in the Guimiao area. The six-lane underground part connects Qianhai with Futian and Luohu via Binhai Boulevard.

The tunnels use an air purification system with world-leading standards to purfiy emissions at the entrances and exits.
