A total of 2,910 citizens volunteered to donate 995,400 milliliters of blood during the seven-day National Day holiday from Oct. 1 to Friday, during which they were active in various blood stations, Shenzhen Blood Center said yesterday.

A combination of photos released yesterday on local citizens donating blood at blood stations in Guanlan in Longhua District, Huaqiangbei in Futian District, and Shenzhen Book City store in Luohu District on Oct. 1. A total of 2,910 citizens volunteered to donate 995,400 milliliters of blood during the seven-day National Day holiday.

On National Day alone, which falls on Oct. 1 every year, 665 residents reached out and donated 221,450 milliliters of blood to express their love for the motherland.

Guo Jiayi, a high school senior, donated blood in celebration of his 18th birthday Oct. 1. According to Guo, he had long wanted to give it a try and give back to society through blood donation.

A citizen named Sheng Wenxiu also chose to donate blood on National Day. She brought her daughter with her and helped her understand the whole process of blood donation.

“I must write down such a meaningful event in my diary,” said Sheng’s daughter after witnessing her mother’s donation.

Gu Wei, a frequent blood donor, came to the city’s blood center again during the holiday after the minimum interval had passed, just like his previous blood donations. This time, he was prepared for a platelet donation.

In order to guarantee the city’s blood collection and supply work, Shenzhen Blood Center’s blood stations remained open during the National Day holiday, according to the center.
