GD delegates continue deliberating Xi's report

Delegates from Guangdong Province to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) continued a group discussion Tuesday morning on the report delivered by Xi Jinping that defines the country’s course of action for the next five years and beyond.

Looking into the future, delegates showed confidence and fully agreed on the importance of sticking to the CPC’s central task to strive to build a modern socialist country in all aspects, according to Shenzhen Special Zone Daily.

It was also highlighted during the discussion that Guangdong Province must seize historical opportunities to play a bigger role in implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

Delegate Zhong Nanshan said the part of Xi’s report related to the pandemic prevention and control work has left a deep impression. Since the outbreak began, Xi, general secretary of the CPC Centra Committee, and the Party, always put people first and deploy scientific methods to fight against the pandemic to ensure people’s safety.

China completed whole genome sequencing within 10 days and became the first country to report it to the World Health Organization. China is also the first to develop fast nucleic acid detection method which has been promoted in many countries. With concerted efforts, the country has achieved the best results in pandemic prevention and control, Zhong said.

Zhong emphasized the importance of sticking to the current prevention and control measures to reduce the pandemic’s impact on people’s lives and urged support for the fast development of vaccines and medicine to build an immune barrier within the whole population.

Delegate Meng Zhenping said China Southern Power Grid will continue to satisfy the power needs of people to pursue a better life, ensure energy supply and the green, low-carbon transformation, support the construction of a new type of energy system, and serve the economic and high-quality social development in South China’s five provinces, as well as Hong Kong and Macao.

Delegate Zeng Yi said that China Electronics Corp. is among the leading forces to enhance the country’s digital transformation and internet construction. The company will continue to safeguard the country’s internet security and promote healthy and long-term development of the internet information industry.

Delegate Xu Hong said they will promote women’s creativity in promoting high-quality development and to protect women’s rights and interests.

Delegate Li Fangfang, a Metro train driver, said that his mission over the past 16 years is to ensure the safety of nearly 1 million passengers.

According to Li, the country has achieved huge traffic development in the past decade. People’s travel has become more convenient with more intelligent services.

Delegate Liu Yahong, who is also president of South China Agricultural University, shared her opinion on the strategy of invigorating China through science and education during the group discussion.

“I witnessed the rapid development of the higher education in Guangdong over the past decade. The number of universities grew from 138 in 2012 to 160 in 2021. This year, Guangdong had three more universities included in the country’s Double First-Class Initiative,” said Liu.

China’s Double First-Class Initiative is a national plan which aims to create numerous world-class universities and disciplines by the end of 2050.
