A total of 100 sanitation workers in Shenzhen who have been working for over five years were honored for their efforts in keeping the city clean at a ceremony yesterday, the city’s sixth and Guangdong’s 29th Sanitation Workers’ Day.

Among them, 50 representatives were invited to attend a ceremony celebrating Sanitation Workers’ Day held in the north square of Shenzhen Book City CBD Store in Futian District.

On site, they were greeted with gifts like cooking oil and rice. Ten of them were presented a certificate of honor at the ceremony.

Two insurance companies also donated personal accident insurance policies with a value of 100,000 yuan (US$13,960) to each of the city’s over 50,000 sanitation workers.

At present, more and more young people have joined the city’s cleaning service system to help improve the mechanization and automation of the city’s sanitation work.

Ouyang Jichen, a university graduate in mechanical engineering, became a sanitation worker after graduating in 2017. He is now responsible for operating small-sized street cleaning machines in Futian Subdistrict. He has a strong interest in small-sized cleaning devices and hopes to help utilize more new devices in various scenarios to improve work efficiency.
