Unlike traditional multistory waste transfer stations, the intelligent underground waste transfer station has only two washing machine-sized containers exposed to the ground, surrounded by many plants.

The containers above the ground serve as an entrance to dump waste into the underground compression containers, saving ground space.

The underground compression containers have a capacity of 10 metric tons and can meet the needs of 20,000 to 30,000 people.

The station area, which covers nearly 1,000 square meters, also has a small square, restroom, public toilet and operational room.

Engineer Ma Ning said that the station is equipped with three sets of deodorization system and wastewater treatment system so that the whole environment is clean and has no unpleasant smell.

The intelligent underground waste transfer station is also a low-carbon project.

The smart station’s water consumption is one-20th of a traditional one, while electricity consumption takes up one-third. Additionally, the smart waste station needs fewer people to take care of it, according to Ma.
