Two new Metro lines, Line 12 and the Line 6 spur line, are expected to start operation Nov. 28, the operator Shenzhen Metro Group announced yesterday.

Line 6's 6.13-kilometer spur line, with four stations, offers interchange with Line 6 at Guangming Station and will connect with Dongguan's Metro Line 1.

"The spur line has passed inspection and acceptance, completed a three-month-long trial operation and meets operation requirements,” Hu Shaopeng, the project manager of the spur line, said at an interview yesterday.

At Sun Yat-sen University Station, the city’s first underground bicycle parking garage will be put into use to encourage slow traffic and low carbon commuting.

“The fully automated technologies, wireless phone charging, intelligent service pavilion and hand print recognition at turnstiles will provide a convenient and comfortable experience for customers, “ said Hu.

Each station is equipped with a baby nursing room for the convenience of mothers, according to Wen Bo, head of Guangming Station.

The 40.5-kilometer fully automated Metro Line 12 has a total of 33 stations. It starts from Zuopaotai Station in Nanshan and ends at Waterland Resort Station in Bao’an, passing through Nanshan CBD, Bao’an CBD, Fuyong Area, Airport Area and the World Convention and Exhibition Area.

Dubbed as the "King of Transfer Stations," Line 12 has a total of 20 transit stations including stations connecting with existing Lines 1, 2, 5, 9, 11 and 20, and those of future lines that are either planned or are under construction.

It will greatly relieve the traffic pressure in the Nanshan and Bao’an CBDs, according to the operator.
