The 2022 China Marine Economy Expo is slated to take place at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Futian District between Nov. 24 and 26, during which the Shenzhen international ocean week will be held for the first time.

Themed “Sharing the Deep Blue through Technological Innovation,” this year’s expo will cover an exhibition area of 60,000 square meters. Over 500 exhibitors have signed up for the event so far, according to a press conference held in Shenzhen on Thursday.

The exhibitors mostly come from seven fields, including ports and shipping, offshore oil, gas and mineral resources development, marine electronic information technology, marine engineering and environmental protection, marine fisheries, marine biology and medicine, and marine tourism and culture.

Hundreds of distinguished guests are expected to join the discussions on the global marine industry’s development trends, cutting-edge technologies and hot issues during the expo, which will arrange a high-level forum and over 20 professional forums.

The Shenzhen international ocean week is scheduled to take place from Nov. 24 to 28, aiming to raise awareness on ocean conservation and encourage ocean literacy, pool social forces to turn Shenzhen into a global marine hub, and show the unique charm of a modern coastal city.

The ocean week will consist of one themed forum, 10 contests open to the public and various ocean-featured activities.

It focuses on six themes and aims to promote marine culture and art exchanges, popular science education, culture, sports and tourism, as well as ecological protection and sustainability.

As an important part of the ocean week, the themed forum will invite experts and scholars from home and abroad to popularize global marine cultural knowledge from multiple perspectives, spread Shenzhen’s characteristic marine culture and improve the public’s awareness of Shenzhen’s efforts in becoming a global marine hub.

Shenzhen has hosted the expo for two consecutive years in 2019 and 2020. As the only State-level marine economy exhibition and the biggest of its kind in China, the expo is a major chance for companies to display developments in domestic and global marine industries, serving as a platform that integrates technology exchanges, product displays, trade negotiations, high-end forums and investment solicitations.

Shenzhen has also achieved phased results in major ocean-related policies, projects and platforms, according to Huang Qiang, deputy secretary general of the Shenzhen Municipal Government.

Shenzhen Port was the world’s fourth-largest seaport in terms of container throughput in 2021. The number and output value of Shenzhen’s deep-sea fishing vessels account for about 60% of the provincial total.

The city has released a series of important policy documents on developing the marine economy, fostering marine industrial clusters and developing modern fisheries since the beginning of the year.

In 2019, the Central Government unveiled a detailed guideline on supporting Shenzhen in building a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics, which stated that the city is supported in building itself into a global marine center city.
