The tunnel project will greatly relieve the traffic congestion of vehicles turning from Binhai Boulevard and Shahe East Road to the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway and meet the demands of the future Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base, which covers around 5 million square meters.

The existing two-way 10-lane Binhai Boulevard will be expanded to a two-way 14-lane one, including two-way eight-lane main road and a two-way six-lane auxiliary road. The tunnel project includes a 1,056-meter underground section and a 503-meter open section.

Upon the project’s completion, a multidimensional transport system for ground and underground traffic will be formed. It will have a four-story underground space integrating public transport and intercity railways. It will connect ground traffic with the underground loop road through viaducts built on the second and third underground floors. In addition, an underground bus stop can satisfy the needs of eight bus routes on each roadside.
