Pregnant woman gets help from cab driver, police

A woman who was to go into labor during morning rush hours of Sunday arrived in hospital in time thanks to the help of a taxi driver and the city’s traffic police, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.

To save the precious time, the taxi driver went through three red lights under the guidance of a policeman, who praised him instead of showing him a traffic ticket, the report said.

At about 7:45 a.m. Sunday, Zhang Haibo, a local taxi driver, received an order from a resident at a housing estate in Buji, Longgang District. The destination was Shenzhen Maternity and Child Health Care Center (Fuqiang Hospital).

Zhang called the passenger and learned that the order was from a pregnant woman who was leaking amniotic fluid. The situation was very urgent as it was during the morning rush hours.

Zhang picked up the woman and called 110, the traffic police number, for help after consulting her husband.

The traffic police immediately responded, and arranged a policeman on a motorbike to help.

Under the condition of ensuring safety, the policeman led Zhang through three red lights to save the precious time and sent the woman to the designated hospital in time.

The policeman made a written record for Zhang and praised him for being calm and responsible, the report said.
