As the number of infections reported in the city keeps increasing, Shenzhen is facing continued pressure in COVID-19 prevention and control in the next few days, a health official said at a press conference yesterday.

Lin Hancheng, a senior official from the Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission, said that Shenzhen’s COVID situation is complicated, grim and urgent, cautioning the risk of imported cases from out of town and hidden transmission chains in communities.

Shenzhen must stay assertive, take more decisive measures, and implement COVID prevention and control measures scientifically and accurately to curb virus spread as soon as possible, according to Lin.

The city will strengthen supervision and inspection in public places and keep providing residents with people-centered services.

Lin said that relevant districts and subdistricts have opened 24-hour hotlines and set up special teams to respond to residents’ needs in a timely manner, with special attention paid to special groups such as the elderly, children, the sick, disabled, and pregnant.

According to Xia Lei, deputy head of the Nanshan District Government, the district has set up special teams and arranged special personnel to cooperate with enterprises and industrial parks to formulate epidemic prevention and control plans, as well as emergency plans.

For residents in high-risk areas, a 24-hour medical service team was established in Nanshan, and the Huazhong University of Science and Technology Union Shenzhen Hospital (Nanshan Hospital) was designated as the special hospital for treating residents in high-risk areas.

Zhang Yuqing, deputy head of the Longgang District Government, said that the district is providing convenient nucleic acid testing service and will arrange staff to provide door-to-door service for the elderly, sick and the disabled.
