The Hongshan International Service Center in Minzhi Subdistrict, which has been offering free online and offline Chinese culture classes since April, is going to give an online class about paper cutting.

Paper cutting is one of the oldest folk arts in China. Dubbed "the art of the common people," it has been widely practiced for a long time. Prior to the invention of paper, people would cut and carve patterns on leaves, leather, silk or gold foil, and use them as decorations to beautify their clothes and homes.

In Han Dynasty (206 B.C.–220 A.D.), when paper was produced in large quantities, people began to use scissors to create beautiful patterns. Traditional Chinese paper cuttings are monochrome and symmetrical. Multi-color and three-dimensional paper cuttings art have also been developed. People use paper cuttings to express good wishes and pray for good luck.

The Hongshan International Service Center in Minzhi Subdistrict, which has been offering free online and offline Chinese culture classes since April, is going to give an online class about paper cutting. As 2023 will be the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese Zodiac, the theme of the paper cutting event will be "Rabbit Embracing the Good Luck.”

During the event, which will take place online from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Dec. 10, attendees can learn to create their paper cutting under the guidance of instructors. Those who'd like to join the class can scan the QR code to register and obtain the materials needed for the craft.
