The Metro operator has implemented new transport organization measures on Line 14 by introducing quasi-direct trains and fast trains that only stop at major stations starting Monday, one month after the line’s operation.

Line 14 is regarded as a line for tidal commuters that are bound for Futian, Luohu and Nanshan during morning rush hours and bound for Pingshan and Longgang during evening rush hours.

Under the new operation mechanism, the quasi-direct train starts at 6 a.m. from Shatian Station, reaching Gangxia North Station in 39 minutes, 16 minutes faster than regular trains, as it only stops at Jinlong, Universiade, Buji and Huangmugang stations, a source from Shenzhen Metro Group said Thursday.

The fast trains operate at intervals of about an hour, or 17 trains a day, from Shatian to Gangxia North stations, with nonstop service at Kengzi, Pinshan Square, Baolong and Zhangbei stations. The whole trip takes 50 minutes, and after 11 p.m. every workday, two additional trains are added to run from Gangxia North to Shatian stations, with nonstop service at Luohu North, Aobei, Zhangbei, Baolong, Pingshan Square and Kengzi stations. The whole trip takes 48 minutes.

The operator has also added two more trains during workday rush hours to cut departure times from 5 minutes 25 seconds to 4 minutes 30 seconds.

Line 14 handled 6.89 million passenger trips in total a month after it started operation Oct. 28, data showed.

Shenzhen Metro network’s daily passenger turnover reached 5.75 million trips for the month since Line 14 started operation, up by 19.5% over the daily average in the previous month.

During workdays, the average daily turnover on Line 14 reached 218,500 passenger trips, and the figure was 209,100 trips during weekends.

Passenger turnover at the city’s three transport hubs saw a spike, with Gangxia North Comprehensive Transport Hub handling an average of 155,100 passenger trips a day, followed by Huangmugang Comprehensive Transport Hub with 52,500 and Universiade Comprehensive Transport Hub with 47,000.
