Editor’s Note: This column was launched by Shenzhen Daily and Shenzhen University (SZU) to provide readers with a glimpse into the lives of international students studying at SZU. The column also covers content related to international teachers, conferences, cooperation and activities, among others. All the stories come from the students of SZU’s College of International Studies.

A delegation led by Shen Xianzhi, editor-in-chief of Shenzhen Daily (SZD), visited the College of International Studies (CIS) of Shenzhen University (SZU) on Nov. 30.

Dai Yonghong, dean of CIS, and Jia Luyi, deputy dean of CIS, along with Lin Jiazhao and Lin Yuting, mentors of the International News and Foreign Affairs (INFA) minor program of CIS, held talks with the visiting delegation on exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.

Dai extended a warm welcome to Shen and his party, introducing CIS’ innovation and transformation work in recent years. “Facing two historical missions, ‘the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation’ and ‘Two Centenary Goals,’ our college attaches great importance to discipline innovation and talent cultivation.” Dai said. “The college is now working toward an integrated system of international communication discipline, with ‘Foreign Language and Literature + Area Studies + International Communication Studies’ as its main focus in order to claim a high ground for cultivating international interdisciplinary talents.”

Shen spoke highly of the innovative practice and cooperation between the two sides. He also reviewed SZD’s pioneering exploration in the international journalism and communication industry. According to him, SZD was founded on July 1, 1997 as the first regional English-language daily on the Chinese mainland.

SZD has received numerous journalism and communication awards at national, provincial and municipal levels, and it is committed to building a multichannel and multimode media network at home and abroad. “SZD values the exchanges and cooperation with SZU and appreciates its interns from CIS in the last two years, who have shown strong teamwork spirit and high professional standards during their internship there,” Shen said.

Jia introduced INFA, saying that it has trained many outstanding undergraduates for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and other regions in the country, many of whom have attended renowned domestic and foreign universities such as Shanghai International Studies University, The University of Hong Kong and Boston University to major in journalism and communication.

“CIS will continue to promote building the GBA and disseminate Chinese stories by working in the field of ‘Foreign Language + International Communication’ in the future,” Jia said.

CIS and SZD has established close cooperation since 2019.
