Shenzhen has launched nearly 100 online and offline consumption promotion activities covering fields such as automobiles, home appliances, digital products, clothing, jewelry, watches, eyewear and catering, the city’s commerce bureau said Monday.

The activities, which will last until the Spring Festival holiday, aim to further whet consumers’ spending appetite and increase consumer activities as the new year is approaching.

To boost car sales, Shenzhen will continue its subsidy program for scrapping old cars. Consumers who purchase certain cars and complete registration will be rewarded with 3,000 yuan (US$429.9) or 5,000 yuan. Consumers can participate in car lotteries in designated commercial areas and stores if they spend at least 1,000 yuan on a purchase.

Shenzhen will carry out a new round of subsidy program for consumer electronics and home appliances, which involves nearly 1,000 stores and over 16,000 kinds of products. The subsidy for certain products will be capped at 15% of an item’s sales price and no more than 2,000 yuan.

A home appliance shopping festival will be launched, where well-known international and domestic brands and dealers will join subsidy programs such as “trade in the old for the new” to encourage citizens to buy quality home appliances and digital products.

In terms of catering, Shenzhen authorities will join hands with the city’s top 10 commercial areas, 100 catering brands and 500 catering outlets to launch themed activities related to the New Year and Spring Festival.

The commerce bureau will organize e-commerce platforms such as Meituan, Pupu, Dingdong Maicai and Hippo Fresh to launch a series of promotional activities targeting special purchases for the Spring Festival.

The city’s districts and new area have also rolled out their own consumption promotion activities to woo consumers. Bao’an District, for instance, is giving out subsidies of 100 million yuan for car purchases and electronic consumption coupons worth 60 million yuan.

According to the municipal commerce bureau, the 2022 Shenzhen Shopping Festival campaign launched this August has achieved remarkable results in promoting consumption. The festival saw subsidies of over 5 billion yuan from local governments and enterprises, and nearly 1,000 large-scale consumption promotion activities were carried out online and offline.
