Shenzhen divided into 6 zones for ecological protection, restoration

Shenzhen's land and space ecological protection and restoration plan (2021-2035) compiled by the municipal planning and natural resources bureau was released recently after being approved by the Shenzhen Municipal Government.

The plan proposed to build a home where people live in harmony with mountains and rivers.

The city’s whole area is divided into six ecological protection and restoration zones, including the central ecological protection and restoration zone, the western coastal protection and restoration zone, the central and western urban ecological environment improvement zone, and the marine ecological reserve zone, as per the plan.

The plan also designated 48 key protection and restoration areas including 16 natural maintenance areas, 25 auxiliary restoration areas and seven ecological reconstruction areas.

Additionally, a slew of projects were planned to preserve natural habitats and ecological environent, restore blue bays and water corridors, and upgrade the city’s urban environment.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), Shenzhen will implement 44 land and space ecological restoration projects and build six demonstration projects for ecological restoration in places such as the mouth of the Maozhou River, Yinhu-Buxin Hill Corridor and the Shayuchong-Guanhu coastal belt.
