New expressway project approved

The Daya Bay-Pingshan Section of Shenzhen-Shanwei No. 2 Expressway project has recently been approved by the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, according to the Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau.

The project is also called as the branch line of Shenzhen Outer Ring Expressway, running about 15.28 kilometers. It connects with the Huizhou-Shenzhen Coastal Expressway at Dachong Village in Huizhou Daya Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone in the east, moves westward to connect with the under-construction Phase III of Shenzhen Outer Ring Expressway and Phase III of Nanping Expressway.

The Shenzhen-Shanwei No. 2 Expressway is part of the Shenshan-Xuwen East-West Corridor, one of the eight horizontal expressways in the Guangdong expressway network. It will serve an important role in linking Shenzhen’s core areas with Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone and the eastern areas of Guangdong.

In another development, the construction contractor for Metro Line 16 has officially handed the project over to the operator, Shenzhen Metro Group, at a ceremony Tuesday. This marked a step forward toward the scheduled opening of the line Dec. 28.

According to the operator, Line 16 has passed check and acceptance tests, as well as safety assessments organized by government agencies. It has also been on test runs for over three months, including 20-day on-schedule runs.

Metro Line 16, which spans 29.2 kilometers, starts at Universiade Station in Longgang District and terminates at Tianxin Station in Pingshan District. It has 24 stations and passes through Universiade Town, Longgang CBD and Pingshan CBD.

The operation of the new line will bring the total length of the city’s Metro to 559 kilometers.
