Intl. air cargo throughput up by 21.1%

Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport’s international air cargo throughput reached 709,000 tons in the first 11 months this year, up by 21.1% year on year.

The airport’s throughput has kept an increase of over 20% year on year for three straight years, data from Shenzhen airport showed.

Using cross-border e-commerce as an example, the number of parcels at the Shenzhen Airport Bonded Area have gone up from several hundred a month in July 2020 to 120,000 a month this year. During this year’s Double 11 Festival, the number of imported parcels doubled year on year.

In the first 11 months, the Shenzhen airport opened six international cargo routes and intensified flights on 10 routes, enabling 35 international routes to reach 23 countries and regions.

The airport has realized its goals of sending cargoes to domestic cities within a day, to Asian cities in two days, and to world cities outside Asia in three days, according to the airport. So far, 28 airline companies operate full-cargo routes at the airport.

The airport also signed strategic cooperation frameworks with DHL and Yun Express, as well as other e-commerce companies to build the DHL South China Distribution Center and Phase II of SF Express South China Hub to further enhance its air logistics hub in the region.

In 2022, Shenzhen airport completed a total of 2 billion yuan (US$286.76 million) in investment for 16 projects, including Terminal 3’s auxiliary office project and Phase II of SF Express and UPS.

Phase II of SF Express, with a total investment of 2.1 billion yuan, will be put into use in 2025. It will increase the airport’s capacity in handling air parcels by 1 million tons.
