The renovation on the railway linking Pinghu South Station and Yantian Port, an important link for seal-rail combined transport, has started recently, a source from the Shenzhen railway construction commanding office showed.
The 19.7-kilometer railway link starts from Pinghu South Station along the Guangzhou-Shenzhen railway in Longgang District and terminates at Yantian Port’s Central Port Area in Yantian District. A 4.2-kilometer spur line will be built at Yantian Port’s Eastern Port Area. The railway will have three stations and trains run at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour.
According to the plan of Shenzhen Port, the throughput of the sea-rail combined transport will reach 3.6 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) a year, accounting for 20% of Yantian Port’s total throughput. Pinghu South Station’s throughput is set at 1.2 million TEUs a year.
The renovation project is slated to finish in four years with a budget of 7.2 billion yuan (US$1.04 billion).
